Firm Foundation Country School Learners Thrive at Karumazondo Life Skills Camp

Firm Foundation Country School is delighted to celebrate the success of the 2026 Life Skills Camp, which was held at Karumazondo in Marondera from 5 to 7 June 2026. The three-day camp provided learners with a unique opportunity to grow spiritually, socially, emotionally and physically through carefully planned activities aimed at developing character, leadership and teamwork.
The camp brought together enthusiastic learners who embraced every challenge and opportunity with remarkable energy and maturity. Throughout the three days, participants strengthened friendships, discovered hidden talents and gained valuable life lessons that will continue to shape their future.
Building Character and Team Spirit
The camp commenced with learners being divided into groups, where they creatively designed their own group names, war cries and songs. These activities immediately fostered a sense of unity, belonging and teamwork among participants.
Learners also attended an inspiring session on Character, which challenged them to appreciate the importance of integrity, responsibility and making wise choices. The excitement continued with the interactive game "Multiples of Three", which tested concentration and cooperation.
As evening approached, learners participated in a thought-provoking session entitled "The Pressures Teenagers Face". This discussion provided a safe platform for learners to openly explore the challenges young people encounter and how to navigate them with wisdom and confidence.
"At the end of all our sessions i really learnt a lot. We must build good characters, work together as a team, avoid all sorts of peer pressure and lastly we must not let people affect our self esteem "
A Day of Growth, Reflection and Fun
Day Two began with an energetic Wake-Up Shake-Up, followed by personal preparation and a morning devotion that reminded learners of the importance of placing God at the centre of their lives.
An enriching lesson on Bible Characters encouraged learners to draw inspiration from individuals whose faith and perseverance changed history. Learners later enjoyed refreshing mud face masks, creating moments of laughter and relaxation.
Academic excellence was also emphasized through a practical session on Study Techniques, where learners were equipped with skills to improve concentration, time management and effective learning habits.
One of the highlights of the day was the swimming session, which was followed by exciting team-building activities that strengthened cooperation, trust and communication among learners.
The day concluded with a powerful lesson on Self-Esteem, reminding learners of their value and potential. A moving prayer session brought everyone together in thanksgiving and reflection.
"I was a group leader and i didn't feel confident as i was just doing things from my head and not giving my teammates a chance to speak. I felt something was missing, yes, teamwork. When i engaged my teammates and gave them time to speak everything moved very well and i gained my confidence. Teamwork is key "
Conquering Challenges and Shaping the Future
The final day featured the exciting Comrades Course Challenge, where learners demonstrated determination, resilience and teamwork while overcoming various obstacles. The challenge encouraged participants to persevere, support one another and step beyond their comfort zones.
In the final session, learners engaged in constructive discussions about what they appreciate about Firm Foundation Country School, areas they would like to see improved, and their aspirations for the future of the school. Their thoughtful contributions reflected maturity, gratitude and a genuine desire to see their school continue to excel.
"People should be able to deal with peer pressure. One should not be around chaotic people but select friends wisely by praying to God "

The camp was further enriched by the presence and support of the school Director, whose commitment to holistic education was clearly evident. His participation and encouragement demonstrated the school's unwavering dedication to nurturing learners who excel not only academically, but also spiritually, emotionally and socially.

"At exactly 12 pm two coaches arrived at Karumazondo Campsite, Marondera. They arrived with learners eager to start activities it was to offer. The coaches introduced themselves and made us comfortable, instructed us to move towards our rooms and just a two seconds delay made us fight with the ground. I found myself pinning to the ground whilst the words 'Sorry sir for being dizzy' spelt out of my mouth. My spine sent shivers indicating terror to come. We were given ten minutes, or ten seconds i guess, to prepare our rooms and take a shower whilst waiting for bingo, the whistle, to give us the next instruction"
