The Biology Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging Cambridge IGCSE Biology lessons that integrate theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory investigations. The successful applicant will prepare learners for Cambridge examinations by developing a thorough understanding of biological concepts, scientific enquiry and experimental techniques.
The teacher will create a stimulating classroom and laboratory environment where learners investigate living organisms, understand biological processes and apply scientific principles to real-world challenges. Responsibilities
- Teach Cambridge IGCSE Biology in accordance with Cambridge International curriculum standards.
- Prepare comprehensive lesson plans, schemes of work and practical laboratory activities.
- Deliver engaging lessons covering cell biology, biological molecules, nutrition, plant and animal physiology, ecology, genetics, evolution, reproduction and biotechnology.
- Conduct practical laboratory experiments while ensuring strict adherence to laboratory health and safety procedures.
- Prepare learners effectively for Cambridge practical, theory and multiple-choice examinations.
- Assess learner performance through assignments, laboratory reports, projects and examinations.
- Maintain accurate learner records, assessment data and progress reports.
- Manage laboratory equipment, biological specimens and teaching resources responsibly.
- Integrate educational technology, scientific simulations and digital learning resources into biology instruction.
- Encourage learners to participate in science fairs, environmental conservation projects and STEM initiatives.
- Collaborate with fellow science teachers to strengthen the school's science programme.
- Communicate learner progress professionally with parents and guardians.
- Participate in departmental meetings, school programmes and continuous professional development activities.
- Uphold the school's Christian ethos, policies and professional standards.
Must Have
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Life Sciences, Biology Education or a related scientific field.
- Recognised teaching qualification (PGDE, Diploma in Education or equivalent where applicable).
- Demonstrated ability to teach Cambridge IGCSE Biology.
- Strong knowledge of biological sciences, laboratory procedures and scientific investigation.
- Experience conducting practical laboratory experiments safely and effectively.
- Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong ICT competency and confidence using digital teaching technologies.
- High level of professionalism, integrity and reliability.
- Commitment to learner success and continuous professional development.
Nice to Have
- Experience teaching Cambridge International AS & A Level Biology.
- Familiarity with Cambridge practical assessment requirements and laboratory management.
- Experience using digital microscopes, laboratory technologies and scientific simulations.
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems.
- Experience coordinating science clubs, environmental conservation programmes or STEM competitions.
- Proven record of excellent Cambridge learner outcomes.
- Ability to teach another science subject will be an added advantage.
- Cambridge teaching certification or relevant professional development will be an added advantage.
