About the Role

The English Language Teacher will be responsible for delivering outstanding Cambridge IGCSE English Language lessons that foster effective communication, analytical thinking and creativity. The successful applicant will prepare learners for Cambridge assessments by developing their proficiency in reading comprehension, composition writing, grammar, vocabulary, oral communication and language analysis.

The teacher will employ innovative teaching strategies, differentiated instruction and continuous assessment to support learners of varying abilities while cultivating a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, confidence and intellectual growth. They will also contribute to literacy initiatives and co-curricular programmes that promote effective communication and a love of learning.

Responsibilities

• Teach Cambridge IGCSE English Language in accordance with Cambridge International curriculum standards.
• Prepare comprehensive lesson plans, schemes of work and engaging instructional materials.
• Deliver learner-centred lessons that develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
• Teach grammar, vocabulary, composition writing, comprehension, summary writing and language analysis.
• Prepare learners effectively for Cambridge coursework, mock examinations and final examinations.
• Assess learner performance through assignments, projects, oral presentations and examinations.
• Provide constructive feedback that supports continuous learner improvement.
• Maintain accurate learner records, assessment data and progress reports.
• Promote a culture of reading, effective communication and independent learning.
• Integrate educational technology and digital resources into English language instruction.
• Support literacy programmes, debating, public speaking, creative writing and other language-related co-curricular activities.
• Communicate learner progress professionally with parents and guardians.
• Participate in departmental meetings, school programmes and professional development initiatives.
• Uphold the school's Christian ethos, policies and professional standards.

Must Have

• Bachelor's Degree in English, English Language, Linguistics, Education or a related field.
• Recognised teaching qualification (PGDE, Diploma in Education or equivalent where applicable).
• Demonstrated ability to teach Cambridge IGCSE English Language.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• Strong understanding of Cambridge assessment objectives and examination requirements.
• Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
• Ability to develop learners' reading, writing and communication skills effectively.
• Strong ICT competency and confidence using digital teaching technologies.
• High level of professionalism, integrity and reliability.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and learner success.

Nice to Have

• Experience teaching Cambridge International AS & A Level English Language.
• Experience preparing learners for Cambridge examinations with a strong record of achievement.
• Ability to teach English Literature or another humanities subject.
• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems.
• Experience coaching debating, public speaking, drama, journalism or creative writing clubs.
• Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies.
• Experience integrating educational technology into language instruction.
• Cambridge teaching certification or relevant professional development will be an added advantage.
