Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality Shona lessons aligned with the ZIMSEC Ordinary Level curriculum.
• Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, assessments, and teaching resources.
• Develop learners' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Shona.
• Teach Shona grammar, composition, comprehension, oral communication, and literature.
• Promote appreciation of Zimbabwean culture, traditions, and heritage through language learning.
• Prepare learners effectively for ZIMSEC Ordinary Level examinations.
• Assess learner progress through formative and summative assessments.
• Maintain accurate learner records and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Differentiate instruction to accommodate learners with diverse learning needs.
• Integrate ICT and digital learning resources into classroom instruction where appropriate.
• Encourage participation in cultural, literary, and language-related activities.
• Communicate learner progress with parents and school leadership.
• Participate in departmental meetings, school events, and professional development programmes.
• Maintain a safe, disciplined, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Uphold the policies, safeguarding standards, and Christian ethos of Firm Foundation Country School.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the School Leadership.

Must Have

• Bachelor's Degree in Shona, African Languages, Language Education, or a related field.
• Professional teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching ZIMSEC Ordinary Level Shona.
• Thorough knowledge of the ZIMSEC Shona syllabus and examination requirements.
• Excellent command of spoken and written Shona.
• Strong lesson planning and assessment skills.
• Excellent classroom management.
• Strong ICT literacy.
• Ability to prepare learners for external examinations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to child safeguarding and professional ethics.

Nice to Have

• Experience teaching Shona Literature at Ordinary Level.
• Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS).
• Experience coordinating cultural, language, or literary clubs.
• Knowledge of learner-centred and competency-based teaching methodologies.
• Ability to integrate AI and educational technology into language instruction.
• Training in safeguarding and inclusive education.
• First Aid certification.
• Experience developing digital teaching resources.
• Experience mentoring learners in speech, poetry, or public speaking competitions.
