About the Role

The Food & Nutrition Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality Cambridge IGCSE Food & Nutrition lessons that combine sound theoretical knowledge with practical food preparation skills. The successful applicant will create engaging learning experiences that develop learners' understanding of nutrition, meal planning, food science, hygiene, food safety and consumer awareness.

The teacher will prepare learners for Cambridge examinations through effective lesson planning, practical assessments and continuous evaluation while maintaining a safe, organised and well-managed food laboratory. They will also contribute to co-curricular activities that promote healthy lifestyles, creativity and life skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Cambridge IGCSE Food & Nutrition in accordance with Cambridge International curriculum standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive lesson plans, schemes of work and practical learning activities.
  • Deliver engaging lessons covering nutrition, food science, meal planning, food preparation and food safety.
  • Supervise practical cooking sessions while ensuring strict adherence to health, hygiene and safety standards.
  • Prepare learners for practical and written Cambridge examinations.
  • Assess learner performance through practical tasks, coursework, assignments and examinations.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, assessment data and progress reports.
  • Manage food laboratory equipment, ingredients and teaching resources responsibly.
  • Promote safe food handling, sanitation and responsible use of kitchen equipment.
  • Encourage creativity, teamwork and healthy lifestyle choices through practical activities.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, school programmes and professional development activities.
  • Communicate learner progress effectively with parents and guardians.
  • Uphold the school's Christian ethos, policies and professional standards.

Must Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food & Nutrition, Consumer Science, Home Economics, Nutrition or a related field.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGDE, Diploma in Education or equivalent where applicable).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Cambridge IGCSE Food & Nutrition.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition, food science, food preparation and food safety.
  • Experience conducting practical laboratory or kitchen-based lessons.
  • Excellent classroom and practical laboratory management skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity and reliability.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Commitment to learner success and continuous professional development.

Nice to Have

  • Experience teaching Cambridge International AS & A Level Food Studies or related subjects.
  • Certification or training in food hygiene and food safety.
  • Experience managing school kitchens or practical food laboratories.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems.
  • Ability to organise nutrition awareness programmes, healthy cooking demonstrations or food-related competitions.
  • Knowledge of sustainable food practices and healthy lifestyle education.
  • Cambridge teaching experience with a proven record of excellent learner outcomes.
  • Ability to teach an additional practical or science-related subject will be an added advantage.
