About the Role

The French Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality Cambridge IGCSE French lessons that promote effective communication and language acquisition through interactive, immersive and learner-centred teaching strategies. The successful applicant will prepare learners for Cambridge examinations by developing their vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and practical communication skills.

The teacher will create a supportive learning environment where learners gain confidence in using French in both spoken and written contexts while exploring the cultures, traditions and societies of French-speaking countries. They will also contribute to language enrichment programmes and co-curricular activities that encourage authentic language use.

Responsibilities

• Teach Cambridge IGCSE French in accordance with Cambridge International curriculum standards.
• Prepare comprehensive lesson plans, schemes of work and engaging instructional materials.
• Deliver interactive lessons that develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
• Teach French grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and effective communication strategies.
• Prepare learners thoroughly for Cambridge oral, listening, reading and writing examinations.
• Assess learner performance through assignments, presentations, oral assessments and examinations.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to support learner progress.
• Maintain accurate learner records, assessment data and progress reports.
• Integrate educational technology, multimedia resources and authentic French materials into lessons.
• Organise and support language clubs, French cultural events and language enrichment activities.
• Encourage learners to appreciate the cultures and traditions of French-speaking communities around the world.
• Communicate learner progress professionally with parents and guardians.
• Participate in departmental meetings, school programmes and professional development initiatives.
• Uphold the school's Christian ethos, policies and professional standards.

Must Have

• Bachelor's Degree in French, Modern Languages, Linguistics, Education or a related field.
• Recognised teaching qualification (PGDE, Diploma in Education or equivalent where applicable).
• Demonstrated ability to teach Cambridge IGCSE French.
• Excellent proficiency in spoken and written French and English.
• Strong understanding of Cambridge assessment objectives and examination requirements.
• Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
• Ability to create engaging, learner-centred language lessons.
• Strong ICT competency and confidence using digital teaching technologies.
• High level of professionalism, integrity and reliability.
• Commitment to learner success and continuous professional development.

Nice to Have

• Experience teaching Cambridge International AS & A Level French.
• International certifications in French language proficiency (such as DELF, DALF or equivalent).
• Experience organising French language clubs, cultural exchange programmes or educational trips.
• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems.
• Experience integrating multimedia, language laboratories and online learning tools into French instruction.
• Proven record of excellent Cambridge learner outcomes.
• Ability to teach an additional foreign language or humanities subject.
• Cambridge teaching certification or relevant professional development will be an added advantage.
