About the Role

The Geography Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective Cambridge IGCSE Geography lessons that combine theoretical knowledge with practical geographical investigations. The successful applicant will prepare learners for Cambridge examinations by developing their understanding of physical geography, human geography, environmental management and geographical enquiry skills.

The teacher will use a variety of teaching strategies, including fieldwork where appropriate, digital mapping technologies and learner-centred activities, to encourage critical thinking and real-world application of geographical concepts. They will also contribute to departmental initiatives, co-curricular programmes and continuous school improvement.

Responsibilities

• Teach Cambridge IGCSE Geography in accordance with Cambridge International curriculum standards.
• Prepare comprehensive lesson plans, schemes of work and engaging teaching resources.
• Deliver lessons covering physical geography, human geography, environmental management and sustainable development.
• Develop learners' geographical enquiry, research, analytical and map-reading skills.
• Prepare learners for Cambridge coursework, fieldwork activities and examinations.
• Assess learner performance through assignments, projects, practical investigations and examinations.
• Maintain accurate learner records, assessment data and progress reports.
• Integrate digital technologies, maps, GIS resources and multimedia into geography instruction where appropriate.
• Organise and supervise educational field trips and geographical investigations in accordance with school policies.
• Encourage environmental stewardship and global citizenship among learners.
• Participate in departmental meetings, school activities and professional development programmes.
• Communicate learner progress effectively with parents and guardians.
• Uphold the school's Christian ethos, policies and professional standards.

Must Have

• Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Geography Education or a related field.
• Recognised teaching qualification (PGDE, Diploma in Education or equivalent where applicable).
• Demonstrated ability to teach Cambridge IGCSE Geography.
• Strong knowledge of physical geography, human geography and environmental studies.
• Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to prepare learners effectively for Cambridge assessments and examinations.
• Strong ICT skills, including the use of digital maps, presentation tools and online learning platforms.
• High level of professionalism, integrity and reliability.
• Commitment to learner success and continuous professional development.

Nice to Have

• Experience teaching Cambridge International AS & A Level Geography.
• Experience conducting geographical fieldwork and educational excursions.
• Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and digital mapping tools.
• Experience using Learning Management Systems.
• Ability to coordinate environmental clubs, conservation projects or geography societies.
• Proven record of excellent Cambridge learner outcomes.
• Ability to teach an additional humanities or social science subject will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of climate change, sustainability and contemporary global issues.
